    do ye guys feed nuts to calves when they are on grass?

    if so how much?

    how much nuts would you feed when they are indoor for there first winter. i know u may say you feed based on sillage testing but we are all round bails so cant test

    You could try but some bails can differ a lot so it be very pot luck

    Yes and no.
    Open the ends on three random bales and take some from deep down. Mix and sample.

    Now, on the whole a batch if bales made at the same time from the same ground and stored the same will be very similar.

    While not exact you'll get a good indicator of feeding value.

    No matter for sampling pit silage is probably no more accurate as a pit can vary quickly along it's length.
