Hi all, in january I applied for a Plumbing apprenticeship in Mercury and I am still waiting to hear back from them, does anyone know when they usually start recruiting or start the interviews? Im originally from dublin but living in wexford and have my wexford address on the application and i was just wondering if theres a preference for people living in dublin or with a dublin address listed as its closer?

Also its looking like im emigrating to oz for a year in January 2015 and booking flights in september 2014, if I was to hear from them after booking my flights do any companies like that refer apprentice places for the future or is the application just cancelled and I apply again in the future when I return? Thanks

After 5 months you probably won't be hearing from them at this stage. I very much doubt any contractor would refer your apprenticeship until you came back, you'd need to re-apply when you were living in the country again.

I wouldn't worry to much, they have a habit of drawing things out, I think the way they do it is they'll take a tonne of applications, and then keep them on file and interview and hire as and when they need bodies, your best bet would be to give them a ring and just enquire as to what stage the recruitment process is in

Thanks guys, I heard yeah that they take ages to get back to you alri.. I tried to apply again in march online to put in my updated safe pass details but they sent me an email after I re-applied and said that they wouldnt be usin my new application but they would use my original one as they still have it on file. I also sent them my CV via email and a written application also so I suppose all I can do is wait and see now.

You should try Jones Engineering Group too, they're often hiring industrial plumbing apprentices
