Diabetic & Car Insurance ?

    Hello folks.

My father wants to purchase a car soon, but he is a type 1 diabetic and He knows that Zurich Diabetes Ireland, in partnership with Zurich and ERM Financial Services, has launched a Private Motor Car Insurance Scheme offering competitive preferential motor insurance rates to people with diabetes and their families.

My father has been driving since he was 16 and is 74 now, his record is as clean as you can get...no points or claims, zero. Now he has been off the road for 3 years and I know he will lose his no-claims bonus.

I would like to know if some-one here can give an estimate as to how much it will cost for car insurance from this company, will it be very expensive for him to get insured, or will it be reasonable ?.

    Thanks.

I'm afraid nobody here can give you an estimate on how much his insurance will cost, any figures would be just pure guess work. There are just too many factors unique to the person being insured that insurance companies take into account for anyone here to know. The only way to find out is by either getting an online quote or ringing them.

Thanks Bazz26. I just thought I might get some feedback from diabetics that use this insurance company and of which might be able to give an estimate, or any other charges for this.

But thanks for the reply. I will just tell him to talk direct with this company tomorrow to see what it all entails.

The diabetes will not be a factor. It used to be the case that insurers avoided writing such risks for no particular valid reason. Now, once you have declared your condition to the licencing authorities and have been issued with a licence, insurers are obliged to quote normal rates.

I see being off the road for 3 years and no NCB as being your biggest hurdles but a good broker can help

As said Diabetes has no bearing on insurance as long as the insurance company are informed. The whole Zurich thing is a marketing angle to get more customers.
