Interesting. How is that legal? especially with passengers. If there was an incident the subsequent headlines could seriously damage an airline! Big risk by the airline involved?

I'd be quite sure all the legalities were taken care of before they started.

    Is this a reality show?

This TV series consists of extreme challenges, to be accomplished by the host. Among others, swimming across the British channel, climbing the 'El Capitan' in Yosemite, ski-jumping off the big Garmisch-Partenkirchen ski-jump. Aviation related, he had to build and fly his own foot-launched glider at the Wasserkuppe and in the episode seen here, performing a couple of t&g's in a B737 without the FI intervening. Probably the least risky of them all...

However it caused quite a stir up to the Belgian parliament. Belgian CAA started an investigation, but couldn't find anything illegal: he had passed his medical, took the PPL theory exams and had a valid SPL. Went solo on the Cirrus and performed many B737 sim training sessions. The actual t&g’s at EBOS with chief pilot/FI in LHS and extra FI in the jump seat, produced spectacular TV but was probably the safest ‘stunt’ he did.

I never said it wasn't legal. I was asking HOW it was legal. But I understand now once he had his SPL then it's still simply a flight lesson whether it's in a single engine circus or a B737. Still surprising they didn't run it by the regulator beforehand. And a risk to airline reputation if anything had gone astray. The publicity they got from the show must have outweighed the risk involved.
