Just back from the off licence with 4 cans of the black stuff.
So out I pour it and its about an inch and a quarter from the top of the pint glass!! I'm thinking has this glass got bigger in the wash as Guinness don't do small rip off cans or bottles, but low and behold they do, they rip people off with their stealth changes in size, I want a 500ml can and not an odd ball 440ml can!!

    Home brew is calling.

It's probably an English can. They're usually 440ml

I worked a Summer in an Irish pub in Germany and overnight we changed from pints to 0,4 (400ml) "pints".

Next afternoon a Dublin builder walked in for his usual.

Served him up a "pint" of Guinness.

""What's this?" he roared. "I asked for a pint not a bleedin' sample!":D

I think you may have calculated the volume of the widget!...go for Guinness Extra Stout and get the full 500ml!

I've never had it happen when posting from a phone web browser. Although I have noticed that I have to press the "submit" or "preview" button twice before it works. Kind of the opposite of double-posting I guess.

    Get a bottled stout.

For many years I have wondered why UK cans were 440ml?

I can understand 284ml bottles = half pint.

    I understand 330ml = 1/3 litre, fair enough.

When I see 660ml bottles, I see some sense in it.

But I simply can't understand the significance of 440???

The Guinness Extra bottles are actually nice and seem to be stocked in most places.

Or try a bottle like O'Haras, Leann Folláin or Young s Chocolate Stout.

Seriously this is wrecking my head now.
Google tells me nothing apart from that lots of other people don't know why.
    Someone help.

Yeah! What the hell was the Op doing drinking stout from a can? It's best out of a glass bottle.

The shaggers do it with the tins of Kilkenny also over in Sveeeeden, that 60 ml would be a gulp the scabby bastards are depriving you of.

Does the volume of the can really matter once you get enough quantity.

Is it the girth or length that really matters:eek:

The girth, you could be beaver tailing till the cows come home with all the length in the world and be no good.

So I propose that in Ireland we ban:

    1) 440ml cans and;

    2) 250ml bottles.

I've bought both thinking I was getting the larger versions (500/330ml) so I feel the OP's pain. The off-licences all do it from time to time...

any idea whats causing that double post?

The unofficial android app. Its faulty.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
