Was listening to the Mooney prog on RTE this afternoon . They were discussing results of the CBS survey - seems the Wren is the most populous species . Was a bit surprised though to hear that the Barn Swallow no. 2 on the list - Would have thought Blackbird or a Corvid perhaps ?

My BirdTrack records show Blackbird top of the pile for me, followed by Wren. Swallow comes in 5th. Wren tops the list per location.

Wren's have such a loud call for their size, and call back and forth to each other a lot, so easy identify during surveys!
So no surprise tgat they top tge list!

Blackbirds can be very quiet at times, only producing a high pitch note from within ditches, and can easily be missed!
