    Saturday Pricewise.
    20/1 Firebird well
    worth a flutter

THE Tote have not made things easy for the Scoop6 players today, especially as the Victoria Cup looks just about the most unfathomable race I can remember for some time. It is possible to make a case for all bar a couple and there is the added complication of the weather forecast.
Rain – and plenty of it – looks the order of the day for all the venues and although the ground never gets too soft up the straight at Ascot, who knows what the actual conditions will be like?
For that reason the better bets might well come over jumps at Haydock, where the ground is likely to be quite testing.
The opening 3m handicap hurdle (1.50) is competitive but if the ground does deteriorate it could be worth siding with Firebird Flyer off his feather weight. Better known as a chaser, there is a chance the seven-year-old won’t quite have the pace to win a good race like this over hurdles, but it was his jumping that prevented him from winning over fences at this track last time and his trainer Evan Williams has a good record at this course and at this meeting.
On the soft ground he loves I expect Firebird Flyer to go well and the 20-1 is way too big, but also have a few quid on Broadway Buffalo.
The Pertemps Final form doesn’t stop getting franked, with the National winner in the race and only last week Jetson beat Quevega in a Grade 1 having finished fifth at Cheltenham. Just behind him were both Cross Kennon and Broadway Buffalo and at the slightly bigger price I marginally prefer David Pipe’s horse.
If there is a trainer with a better record in staying hurdles at Haydock than Pipe I would like to meet him or her and with the ground likely to change in his favour, Broadway Buffalo is worth backing at
    14-1.
The Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (3.30) is not as competitive as usual. Normally I have given up on Venetia Williams-trained horses at this stage of the season. However, we all know they love soft ground and, given the forecast, it could be worth siding with Dubawi Island.
Williams’ five-year-old has really surprised me with how well he stays having been a miler on the Flat and two miles at Haydock will suit perfectly.
Unbeaten in three starts over hurdles, obviously this is a much tougher assignment but there is plenty more improvement to come.
The Derby trials haven’t thrown up any gems this term and I would be surprised if there was any great change after the Betfred-sponsored contest at Lingfield (2.55). Having said that, there could be a bet in the race because Snow Sky ran a cracker behind a good horse in Western Hymn on his return and at that stage of the season Sir Michael Stoute’s yard wasn’t firing at all.
Stoute’s colt should improve markedly on that effort and, in a race where the O’Brien pair will no doubt improve for the run, the 6-1 looks worth taking.
As I’ve mentioned, the Victoria Cup (3.50 Ascot) is a nightmare. However, at a big price it could be worth taking a chance on course specialist Don’t Call Me.
He was fourth in the Hunt Cup last year off a 10lb higher mark and on that form he has a right chance. He’s a big price because he ran a shocker at Haydock last time, but he’s bounced back from poor runs in the past and the 33-1 is worth chancing.

    Advice

    Broadway Buffalo
    1.50 Haydock
    1pt win at 14-1 with bet365 (12-1 generally)

    Firebird Flyer
    1.50 Haydock
1pt win at 20-1 with Ladbrokes (16-1 generally)

    Snow Sky
    2.55 Lingfield
1pt win at 6-1 with Paddy Power (5-1 bet365 and Betfred)

    Dubawi Island
    3.30 Haydock
1pt win at 8-1 with Coral (15-2 Paddy Power)

    Don’t Call Me
    3.50 Newmarket
1pt win at 33-1 with bet365 or Boylesports (28-1 Ladbrokes)

I'll be having a go at snow sky today at lingers. Pity Tom put him up as the price is probably gone now but he'll do for me.

Some tipster he is. 14/1 winner and 20/1 place in his first race. Got on Broadway Buffalo at 10s earlier, in a patent with Barizan and Burn the Boats.

Previsata in the Wexford bumper seems to be very well supported in the betting.

    Fairly hacked up.

Gary O'Brien put it up, he's in really good form.

3 bumper winners in 2 days for Paul Nolan.

Ah, that explains why she was blue across the board. She fairly sluiced in alright.

Had a full look through the card in the 6.40 at Thirsk - came away with Bapak Bangsawan. Can't see it NOT being in the first 3

Edit: OK I'll shut up now :(

Anyone give the osteopath a chance in the 740 at Thirsk? He's getting a bit long in the tooth but down to his last winning mark, probably vulnerable to a younger one
