Any tips for driving a Tipper truck?

I will be driving a tipper truck off road next week on a 2 day trial.

It's only a 6 wheeler I believe. But I have no experience of driving one of these despite having a licence a few years.the boss knows this.

I've never used the diff lock on one . Neither have I used the engine brake. Neither have I tipped a load.😀 I might jump in with one of the other lads for a spin to see what gears an when he uses the engine brake etc.

    Any tips for me?

    Confidence is high though! lol

Use the exhaust break going downhill especially with a load on, helps hold you back
Use the diff lock if stuck but turn it off once your moving/regained traction
Dont drive along hard on rough ground while the tipper body is still coming back down as it is easy to twist the ram

With a six wheeler be careful going into corners as they like to try and go straight on, especially with a load on.
The diff-lock is better used to to prevent yourself getting stuck in the first place, also one of the big things to watch out for will be stones stuck between the rear tyres, these can either cause damage to the tyres or when you speed up on the road they can come out and possibly damage any thing unlucky enough to be in the way...

It will all come to you over time but there is a hell of a lot of things to master when driving a tipper, I know a guy that tried to drive one a few years ago and between getting stuck all the time, burnt out clutches, worn out brakes and a good few ripped up tyres could never get the hang of it....
