    An interesting piece from a recent post in the journal.ie which claims that Limerick, (aswell as Dublin), is now seen as a good place for business to invest in.

    A NEW REPORT has named Dublin and Limerick as two of the top cities in Europe to invest.

    The sixth global ‘Best to Invest Report’ was compiled by Site Selection, an international magazine focusing on corporate real estate strategy and area economic development.

    We should be seeing the Limerick region (including East Clare and North Tipperary) as being a potential counter-balance to the Dublin metropolitan region.

    If we do start to see this potential, and if we organise ourselves (and it's important to note that to date we haven't either recognised the potential or done a good job of organising the region), then we could see massive investment in this part of Ireland in the next few years and decades. We are best placed, and best suited of all the Irish urban centres to be this counter balance to Dublin.

    While Dublin is attracting the lion's share of investment currently, it is also a chaotic place and increasingly uncompetitive. Its problems are much more difficult to fix than ours.

    Hopefully some of the office space promised in the 2030 plan is delivered.
    There should then be a focus on getting more jobs in the city.
    No reason why we can't attract more fund admin companies similar to Northern Trust and Pharma.
    There seems to be alot of land near the docks that could be developed into office space.It could certainly do with it.

    We need to do a huge amount to improve the city centre, and that job falls to the new amalgamated council.

    Thankfully for the city centre, its local authority (city council) is amalgamating with the wealthiest local authority (Limk County Council) outside Dublin, so with the right direction we should start to see big improvements soon. I think we need to grasp the nettle on the pedestrianisation of O'Connell Street and possibly a good chunk of Patrick Street too.

    Why can't there be a creative or digital hub in Limerick? Why is it all based in Dublin? I'm not talking about the likes of Google but digital marketing and graphic design companies and the likes.

    It seems one has to go to Dublin to get any decent experience.

    Same with the school of fashion in Limerick. Recognised as a top college, but most graduates have to go to Dublin or abroad.

    Not everyone can work in the medical device or pharma sector.
