JC French Query

Do any French teachers on here know if the formal letter can ever be asked on its own on the JC exam. Up until now, a student has always had the option of doing the informal letter but does this always have to be the case?

Sorry if this may have come up before....

I am after checking the papers. It has never come up on its own but it needs to be covered with students just in case. It's on the Leaving Certificate anyway. Hope that answers your question.

I think that it is inconceivable that the formal letter could appear on its own. When it comes up it is attempted by a tiny number of students. Of those, the vast majority are among the weakest candidates who frankly haven't a clue what they're doing. A very small proportion are excellent. There tends to be no middle ground.

As social media commentary on every aspect of the state exams has become more influential, I think the SEC has become more averse to courting the type of outcry that would follow such a radical and unannounced change to the paper.

Yes, that would be my experience of it also. Thanks!

Yes I also feel that there would be war if it were to come up on its own. However there's no harm in letting your class know what it is,for fear they'd accidentally attempt it, if it did come up again as an option. I usually provide one or two samples as well, as very good students are genuinely curious. But I warn them not to do it. It's lunacy even having it on the junior course.
