Sorry but this is just a quick but stupid question....

Have an argument with a few friends and need to know what side the indicator switch is on cars in Ireland???

I'd like to know for specifically for a vw golf 2008 for example but also for other makes of car if different.

    Thanks

    Can't find on google

There was a thread about it on here not so long ago. Its not standard.

    Should be standardised.

Always choose the wrong option when driving a new car.:o

A 2008 golf is on the left :)

Generally European built cars are on the left i think.

Vast majority of cars have it on the left.
Out of cars built in the last 10 year, indicator switch on the right is very rare thing.

But hopefully will become more common for the Irish Market as we drive on the correct side of the road and need our left hands to operate the gear stick.

As with what I said in the other thread.
I agree that placing indicators switch on the right makes more sense on RHD car - because of location of gear stick.
However having them on either sides causes a lot of confusion for anyone switching between cars which having them on left or right, and therefore it causes more bad than good.

Therefore it's quite good that manufacturer unified it finally and all cars have it on one side.

Firstly I don't believe any LHD car has indicator switch on the right.
Secondly I don't think there are any new cars in Ireland available on the market at the moment with indicator switch on the right, while there might be some in Japan or some place else.

So it does depend where on the world you are.

What Cino meant is that most of Europe drive on the right so they make the cars for their local markets first and then convert them to RHD for Ireland and the UK, they dont bother changing the indicator location.

Japan drives RHD the same as us, so a good few of the Japanese brand motors have the indicator on the opposite side to European manufactured cars.

LHD cars don't have it on the opposite side. It depends on the make, where the car is built and other factors I'm sure.

    I've owned :
    Irish 94 Civic - Right.
    English 97 Colt - Right.
    Jap 95 Integra - Right.
    Irish 94 Corolla - Right (I think).
    English 98 Corolla - Left
    Irish 07 Focus - Left.

There is no absolute rule but the bias is there.

My Hyundai is on the right. My Late Loving Dad had a Toyota and they were on the left.
    Should be standardised.

Chose the wrong option when driving my Late Loving Dads car a few times also I can tell you. Rain starts; indicators on :o Yup, happened more than once and in reverse too with needing indicator and wipers a flappin'

    Should be standardised yes,
