has anyone compared the slg-in-a-box to the framemeister? Very happy with the slg but looking for opinions from someone with both devices.

Yep. I used to have all the components that make up the SLG in a Box. I still have the SLG and a Sync Strike. Utterly useful tools.

As far as how the scaler differs. It's night and day. However that is why you pay the premium for a Framemeister.

The scaler inside the SLG in a Box is still good, but in all honesty, compare the two side by side and you'll take the Framemeister. It is simply that good.

I sold my DVDO VP20 with the rare as hens teeth ABT 102 deinterlacing card, which in itself I though was my scaling and deinterlacing utopia. But remember, the XRGB, the Faroudja etc are all 10 or more years old now. Technology has changed a lot when it comes to video processing.

If you are on a budget, go for the SLG kit. But in all honesty, put away a few bob and go for the Framemeister. :)

Here is a sample video I made with my old DVDO VP20 setup with the ABT-102 card. I actually noticed afterwards I was using the wrong deinterlacing settings! :o

But it should give you a good idea I hope of what that kit could do. Now multiply that by a squillion and you'll get an idea of what the Frameister can do.

I also captured some footage, without sound (to save my hosting bandwidth) of the Frameister from the first day I bought and unpacked it.

It's not really that good a demo because I hadn't upgraded the firmware and I hadn't made a small adjustment to rid the display of the scanline placement bug (note the one thick scanline there that looks out of place, in fact, check out the article itself to see a close up from a screengrab).

But again, it gives a very rough idea of what it can do. It's absolutely by no means comprehensive so take it with a pinch of salt. :)
