Gents, I was in the garage last night and have some lengths of timber knocking about, so I am going to build a larsen trap, was thinking about a 3 section one.
Can anyone suggest the length, height and width, that it should be ?, & where do I get the correct springs?
    Tks LF

i can get the springs for about 5 euro a pair, or the circular large larsen trp for about 85 euro

    I made one last year.
Its a bigger sized one as i wanted it to have a bit more room to make it easier to get greys into.

Two pix of it in this thread.http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057166752&page=3

From memory i think its 2foot6 square and around 14 inches deep.

I started with making the base and top squares. Then made that into a box and just halved it for the host and halved it again for the trapping compartments.
Took me about a day and a bit to do it and by the end i reckon i would have bought one almost as cheap..

a smaller version I turned out to suit measurements of roll of wire and ease of transport, its 1200 long,450 high,410 wide..I pick up my springs at the game fairs mostly.Theres a shop down in inch( gorey),fella sells springs there as well.Hope this helps you someway.

i made one last year or the year before out of scrap bits of weld mesh just tie cliped them together . i got the springs from a real old cast iron bed .the springs from a small trampoline also work and you get a good few from it

I looked at making wooden framed trap doors for mine but i thought that they seemed heavy for the springs i had so i just made up all steel ones using heavy wire and tying the mesh to the frame,, Considerably lighter and quicker closing,

there are also sliding steel doors in the sides of mine to make it easier to take out trapped birds and to feed the host,
Bit more complicated in the making of it but worth it in the long run.

Wire is 2" weldmesh, cabletied together. Small door on the nearside of each compartment, capletie hinges. Doors open inwards, 'default' position is closed! Springs from Mac Eoin, Kerry. Have seen springs for sale at Poultry fairs/sales, if there is one held near you! Dave
