Letters/emails to Law Society not being ansswered

Hi! I posted here about three months ago about having difficulty getting my Deeds back from a solicitor though I owed him no money etc. The Law Society eventually got my Deeds back - the solicitor handed them over eventually even though he had accused me of owing him money - but when it came down to it, he couldn't prove it, and I had all my receipts, letters etc for transactions. However, I have written to the Law Society since asking them, before the case is formally closed, to ask the solicitor to send me a letter stating that I now do not owe him any fees. I had a bad experience with my mother's estate with people coming out of the woodwork saying she owned them money, and her filing system was so bad that it took me about a year to prove she didn't owe the money. I have sent two letters/emails to the person dealing with my case in the Law Society asking them to confirm with the solicitor and send me a letter stating that I don't owe any fees but they have not responded to me. I suppose it would get the solicitor in trouble, asking for fees before he would hand over Deeds, then not being able to prove I owed anything, and then handing over the Deeds anyway once the Law Society threatened him with the Registrar's Committee. I was going to go the person above this person in the Law Society or should I be going to the Independent Adjudicator - though the person won't respond to me, so I don't know if the case is closed or not.

You were on complaining about slow responses from the Law Society several times over several months.

You were told it takes time, as correspondence has to go back and forth between the society and the solicitor.

They did their job and got your deeds back. Result.

Now you're complaining that they're slow to respond on a related issue. Would you not think that this will also take time?!

Have you written to your former solicitor directly? Confirming that you don't owe outstanding fees is between you and your former solicitor. Perhaps the society sees it as outside their remit.
