no subject will remain compulsory bar the core 3 however schools are obliged to ensure a sufficient amount of sphe type of education takes place. Same goes for PE. So I suppose you could see sphe being covered in science, RE etc

My understanding of it is that SPHE will remain a compulsory subject to be taught, but that undertaking it as a short course for the JCSA will be optional. The time allowance for it will also be almost doubled.

That sounds like the most logical thing, its so important that kids get this type of education....its very valuable imo. I cant see it becoming optional

Asked an inspector this, they didn't know. Looks at the mo like it will be optional, but in reality there are SPHE teachers in schools & timetables will have to be filled, so it will be there in some form, but will vary between schools

To my mind, sphe is more important than cspe. That will go id say. I was told at inservice that sphe was compulsory.

interesting that it will get more ime as a short course that it did as a subject.

anyway, union directive says were not allowed to talk about it
