Replacing a bathroom ceiling and choosing a small window extractor fan?

    Hi,

Currently doing up a bathroom, the walls and floors have been tiled but the ceiling needs to be sorted now...

The ceiling used to always chip and peel and go black with mould. It had been covered for years with a make shift tongue and groove wooden ceiling but that has been torn down to facilitate the other changes.

There is an extractor fan in the window but it's a bit old and would be happy to replace it if anyone here would recommend a newer neater model...

So if you were starting from scratch with a new bathroom ceiling where would you start? Is it safe to insulate above a bathroom ceiling?

I dont see why you would need to insulate above, but if you need too then you can.
Over time any bathroom ceiling will see the paint mold, crack, peel. Its unavoidable even with a good extractor fan.
Personally, i would tell you to look up a product called CELUPLAST.
I have it in my bathroom and it is brilliant. Gives a quality looking finish, its made of plastic i think, but trust me - it looks incredible, and you will never need to paint the mouldy ceiling again.
It can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, 1 year on and i have never had to touch mine.
I picked mine up in baldoyle, google it and take a look. Reasonably priced too.

The plumber recommended a product called Grosfillex panelling. I think I'll go with that, but I am hoping to put in an extractor fan above the ceiling first.

What would the best ceiling extractor fan to get?
