Where is the cheapest place to buy silage wrap? I was thinking of going up north and maybe buy a pallet. Any makes to be wary of ?

I bought volac 2000 meter rolls last year works out a bit cheaper but then I only wrap 3-400 bales.

Cheaper is not always better lads. Buy a good brand bit don't be robbed either.
Its all grand bragging saying you got cheap wrap but I'd be using more on the bales.......its cheaper for a reason.....not as good

How many rolls were you looking for?

I was thinking along the same lines myself. After a few seasons with the cheaper makes I'm going to try volac or the like this year.

I'm not happy as plastic doesn't seem as strong as I remember from previous years. Very suspectible to tears from machinery and vermin. Also water seems to penetrate overlaps in film.

Also netting seems to have become a joke. However it wouldn't suprise me if contractor is getting cheap netting either and/or not using enough...

Bales are sagging more than should also despite my pleads for him to go high density. Maybe time for a change of contractor? To be honest only for silage quality was so good last winter I'd probably change.

    Volac, best by a mile.

Co-op source closest in terms of quality.

Avoid silotite, quinn, if it looks cheap it is cheap.

Plastic centre on volac rolls handy if plastic left over, have been unable to use rolls with cardboard centers because of water damage because lads didn't look after them.

Silotite absolute rubbish, after putting on 6 layers could still see netting through it, pure light.

Heavier the plastic the better, you would hear the noise of the plastic when wrapping with volac compared to lighter stuff, because the plastic just isn't in the cheaper stuff.

Volac rolls averaged 32 bales a roll compared to CO-OP source and others only giving 29 per roll.

I would agree with ya on all them points jimbo apart from the volac one. I wouldnt rate it to be honest, seen a lot of rolls last the last few years that would have pin pricks in the wrap and if ya werent looking closely at the wrap coming out of the dispenser ya would miss them handily enough.
Personally i think the itw silawrap is the best but thats just my opinion. Them cheaper brands dont seem to have the same tack either but i suppose if their a good bit cheaper its for a reason.

Heavier the better only if its quality! Was given stuff to use on a few farms one year when i was following wrapper for a contractor, it was called rhino wrap, it felt more like the thickness of wrap when ya take it off the bale, but it was the worst dirt I've ever seen....
It didnt have that tearing sound you get as it pulls off the roll, instead it popped... Was the wierdest thing you've ever heard listening to the wrapper go pop pop pop all day....

had big problems with volac and so did many neighbours & guess what they didn't want to know

only use Durapak now and no issues even when bales are 2 or 3 years old
