I have been driving a rear mower for the contractor I work with for about 4 years. This year he's getting a front mounted one to go with it. Anyone have any tips or tricks on driving one? What do ye do opening the headlands of a field for example? Cheers

Just keep out a little more than usual from the ditch and keep an eye out. When going out onto the road remember that you are that little bit longer on the nose aswell. When driving across fields take it easy on rough ground as if the front mower starts bouncing it puts savage stress on the A frame. Seen a few of these broke due to rough ground.

Keep the rear mower next to ditch when openin up, more of a chance of spotting the rock/stone/lump of tree/50yards of fence on the ground then!

Agree for first round then reverse the rotation. Obviously keep the front mower as the guiding mower, ie at the outside of the grass to be cut. A safety chain on the front top link is a good idea as a lot of front top links are light enough and a broken one in transport does serious damage.

Thanks for the replies. Would ye not think its a bit dodgy mowing the run nearest a ditch as a first run? ie you've no idea where stones or branches are hidden in the grass as you haven't driven it beforehand! I have often found foreign objects by actually driving over them as they couldn't be seen!
