Hi all, last year my father died of bowel cancer and my mother has since been receiving widow's pension. She was diagnosed with breast cancer herself a few weeks ago, and we are wondering if she would be entitled to anything else as she's receiving the widow's pension ?? Have been looking online and I'm still a bit confused to be honest. Thanks :)

Unfortunately the days of getting two Social Welfare payments side by side are gone. It use to be the case that someone could get a Widows Con Pension and half rate illness benefit if they had the contributions but that is no more.

Depends on what age your Mum is (i.e. Under 66 or Over 66) and what type of pension she is on i.e. Widows Contributory or Non Contributory. For example, for an Under 66 person, Widows Non Con and Disability Allowance (DA) are the same rate but there are secondary benefits such as Living Alone Allowance and Household Benefits on DA that are not on the Widows.
