Its about time that all election posters and unsolicited leaflets were banned. There should be 1 website where every candidate gets a page to put forth their policies and people can visit it and read for themselves.

If there's an insistence that some people don't have access to the internet then there should be one booklet issued by the election commission where each candidate gets a page to put forward their policies.

Well the publicity should hopefully pi$$ on his chips as far as re-election goes.

    I like this idea.
If there's an insistence that some people don't have access to the internet then there should be one booklet issued by the election commission where each candidate gets a page to put forward their policies.

And the booklet only gets sent out if a registered letter requesting one is received by the election commission.

seriously how can the litter warden show or prove that the piece of election poster they found actually came from this woman? What a miserable spiteful thing to do!

This is one of those occasions where even though he was technically in the right, it would have been smarter to let it go. While obviously littering is an important concern, if he thinks that ensuring the law is obeyed to the letter is the key to success in Irish politics he's in for a rude awakening.

So litter wardens & labour working side by side and I didnt think there was another way those two could become even more unpopular!

If it goes to court, it would be thrown out, the candidate is an absolute clown (which probably means he will be elected and given ministerial post)

...If it goes to court, it would be thrown out...
... and disposed of in the correct manner, I would hope.

It says in the article, that residents rang him, and that illegal dumping is an issue in the area.

If this is true (and that's a big enough "if") then is it possible she's dumping stuff the whole time and the neighbours are sick of her, but took advantage of this, knowing that a recently annoyed candidate would act strongly on it?

If true, it would be genius.

But I have my doubts of the organisation of local people and politicians to act together in a quick and coherent manner to think this plan out and actually follow through with it.

Its great to see elected officials using tax payers money in a sensible manner during these difficult times. But seriously why do politicians still thinks it totally acceptable to go after the vulnerable in society still in 2014. I sick and tired of hearing how evil FF was, when the other two parties currently elected are acting in the same manner. Ministers clinging on positions that they are failing to do properly.

These two parties offered change. But are FF with a different name

they can't insist that "some people don't have access to the internet" yet charge everyone with a "broadcasting tax" when they replace the tv licence crap....
that aside, agree 100%. lampposts littered with ugly heads. worst case each candidate should be allowed 100 posters.

on the day of the election I'm going to count the posters I see per candidate on the way to the polling station, and vote pro-rata, lowest number gets my first preference. seems fairest, have to have some way of choosing.

also surprised to see the "green" party littering as well as the others, would've thought that's bad for tthe environment ..

Yeh sorry to rubbish it, but it definitely looks like one of those stories to which there is more than meets the eye, in my opinion.

He was disgusted and offended, called in a favour with the litter warden and made up the calls of complaint to seem less like a man with a grudge?

Article also said the area is strewn with litter and the litter warden has never been seen in the area before.Too much of a coincidence for me.Councillor loses face then rings his mates in the council to send the warden out to make an example of the woman who had the temerity to embarrass him.

My missus always says having candidates for election call to the door is useful - it allows you to know who the biggest cnuts in the county are without having to go looking.
