Due to unforeseen circumstances eg the female influence in my life, my trusty and much loved 04 e60 530d is to go on to a new owner. It has 96k genuine miles with a mainly BMW service history albeit for one mercedes stamp curiously and one independent stamp. Having seen that prices of 2004 530ds are actually higher in the uk at the moment than here what would be my best way of advertising and selling there? Autotrader, gumtree etc? How does one convince a jolly old Englishman to part with his pound notes or am I mad to even try?

I will stick it up on done deal et al at the weekend as well but just want to keep my options open.

I was thinking that done deal etc would have that covered. But that said I didn't think of the ni only sites which is a bit of a no brainer! Duh for me!!

What I'm trying to find out is it worth my while advertising on the mainland uk sites?

Nah its a diesel so they'll be beating down your door here.

No harm in sticking it up on autotrader and a few BMW forums. Don't forget that you'll get the VRT back if you export it.

VRT rebate was on my mind alright. It being a Irish from new car shouldn't matter I presume?

I'll pop it up on autotrader this weekend and see how I get on.
If anybody has done this, feel free to tell me about how it all went.

Can't place auto trader uk ad unless you have a uk mobile/ debit card.

How do you convince an English person to come over here? It needs to be priced significantly lower to such an extent that the price of flying to ireland, bringing the car back to the uk and registering it there is cheaper than the equivalent 530d in the uk.
The vrt refund can come in very useful in this respect.

Gumtree Belfast is a totally different site to gumtree dublin. More frequently used by people who are selling decent stuff and not just junk.
You could also look into pistonheads?
A lot of posters on alfaowner use ebay to sell cars, might be an option of investigating that.

Used cars NI has a good few adds on it, try there, I'd be very interested to see how you get on as I might try it myself when it gets closer to tax time again.
I wonder would people from the north have any worries about buying a southern car.

Post up how you get on, any calls etc.

UPDATE - car went to a new owner this evening. It took 6 days to sell and I had a good bit of interest in it. I said I'd wait a week or two before going down the English route and thankfully it went fairly fast. Sorry to anybody who was hoping to find out how an English sale may have gone.

Also the VRT refund after the 500 euro admin fee would have given me back 281 euro in total. Hardly enough to convince one to go through the hassle tbh.
