Focus TDCi or Cee'd CRDi

    So guys and gals,

Been looking at a Kia Cee'd with 43,000 KM lately. Priced at €11,500. Its 2010, 1.6CRDi.... but

    I also was looking at a 1.6TDCi Focus for €13,500 also 2010 with 60,000KM.

Is the Focus worth an extra €1500? They're both similar with specs, focus is bigger obviously but I was hoping to put €6000 with my own car at most and theyre offering €5500 for my 2009 Seat Ibiza 1.2L petrol. If it was worth it I may fork out an extra grand or €1500 as I'm hoping for a car to last me 3 to 4 years until I finish my degree.

I know Kia have the big 7 year warranty, although its full of holes with individual parts having their own warranties, but it is a tempting car! It looks nice too.

Reason I'm changing is that I currently have a 3 door and I want a 5 door hatchback with a little bit more oomph and diesel as I travel motorway 80% of the time... the rest of the time are main roads, very little town driving...

    13.5k for a 2010 Focus 1.6TDCi?

    Jez, I'm giving mine away!

Get the cee'd. The crdi engine is a more reliable unit than the Peugeot unit in the focus, which is known for its oil sludge and turbo issues.

    Beat me to it:D
Of course anything can give trouble but the PSA lump ford employed is the much more likely of the two to do so.

Interested to hear that Kia's warranty might not be what I always imagined it to be.

Do some parts not get covered in the warranty?

Yep. Things like radios etc. to be fair the expensive stuff like turbos, injectors, sensors etc is covered.

The ceed is a very good car OP. I'd have one over a Focus no problem.

Yeah I had a feeling twas a tad pricey. Buying thru dealer though so I get a 12 month warranty... still pricey. Could probably find one a wee bit cheaper alright but I'm just looking for opinions at the moment. The KIA is well priced though... I think?

Apparently though different parts of the KIA are given different warranties... not exactly sure what has what but its in the small print. They do say quite clearly that paint has 5 years and something has 3 and wear and tear doesnt count but somewhere theres a full breakdown of everything covered and not covered... it's not 100% clear cut!

Seems to be the general consensus... thought the focus would get a lot of thumbs up to be honest. But I really like the KIA just I'm not familiar with them at all

Rightly or wrongly, the Ford will come with a better reputation.

But the Kia's are definitely catching up.

Fair point. Ford is around a lot longer. And they're common as muck now which is actually a slight turn off. Theres a lot of KIA's but compared with Ford's they're quite scarce!

I'd have a look at something like this also:

i30 is the sister car of the Ceed.

And that's the 116bhp as opposed to 89bhp engine that you normally see on irish i30s and ceeds.

The i30 is a nicer looking car than the cee'd imo.

Ya I really like the look of the i30, probably the most eye catching car in that segment, especially when it has all the extra's!

Drove the cee'd today... smashing car :D Definitely getting the cee'd. The i30 is nice too but reliability and cost of repair are drawing me towards the KIA :) Focus is going slowly to the back of my mind now

The i30 and Ceed are identical cars under the slightly different bodywork. I cannot imagine one being more reliable over the other given they are mechanically identical, granted the Kia would have a longer warranty assuming the 150,000 km limit isn't reached first.

Took you're response into consideration and drove the i30 but... I just didn't like it as much as the cee'd. I just wasn't as comfortable behind the wheel. Nice car dont get me wrong but preferred the cee'd so purchased it today :)

    Thanks for the help everyone!

Good luck with it, give us an update when you have a few miles on it.

Think I've put on about 250km now and loved every one of them.

Handling is so light for a car that's heavier than my previous. Was surprised by how light is was!

The extra power feels great. No struggling up hills :P can't fault the lag either. It's there but at about 1800rpm its pretty much gone.

I think it looks great from the outside, feels great inside, loads of space for rear passengers!

Overall great car for the money. My only, only downfall was the radio. I don't find the sound as good as my old car. But I don't mind so much. Can't win everything! :)
