I submitted a query about my medical card through the email facility on medicalcard.ie. Does anyone know how long it takes to get a response?

Client Registration up to their old tricks again. Sent in renewal April 25th , checked status which tells me if I don't hear anything by May 8th to contact them. This morning I get a letter with a different reference number saying if I don't hear anything by May 30th to contact them whereby the online status says May 25th?

Why would I get 2 different reference numbers for the same application with different dates?

Application Status: Your application is in progress.

My situation is my doctor is no longer taking medical cards and they won't let me change to a doctor of my choice for 3 months.

hopefully the visit from the Oireactas Committee might improve things but unlikely....worrying to hear that some of the work has been outsourced to Germany though.....

Yeah worrying indeed. I've been ringing weekly for an update for my renewal and have been promised (yet again) of an investigation of why mine's taking so long.......

I just spoke to the "helpine" people and asked about that rumour and was told that that's all it is "a rumour".

No, only the card that expired at the end of January. I heard you will be covered until a decision is made but I'm not sure how true that is.

My young lad was very ill in March and I had to take him to the out of hours GP. The GP just took details from his expired medical card and said she didn't know if he was covered or not and don't be surprised if we get a bill.

So far we haven't received a bill but I'm not counting my chickens yet

Our cards ended on the 31st of March, the renewal letter arrived 6 weeks before and we posted it the day after it arrived.

They queried 2 letters (rent and creche receipts were only for a month, they wanted a receipt for how much per year we spend!).

It took them till the 31st of April to decide they wanted these letters, we offered to send them ASAP, they said no, I have to wait till their letter arrived asking for the items as it would have the A4 sheet with a barcode on it so they could match the documentation to our application.

So letter arrived the 7th of May and we sent it back the next day, they received the documentation on the 8th of May, it was scanned in and is awaiting someone to view it and make a decision.

Since the 31st of March we have spent €220 on doctors and €18 per week for meds. The doctors have said that if the medical card says that it is valid from the 1st of April then they will refund us €90 for doctor visits, (The other €130 was an eye doctor so not refundable.) So, no you have no medical card once the renewal date has passed. The chemist and doctors knew on the 1st of April they the card was no longer in place.

OP on the the most basic of enquiries are suitable for the online contact form in my opinion, in your case I'd get on to your local TD as I have never heard of a situation like it.

I am getting an SW Payment as my only income so maybe that might make it more clear cut in terms of getting it processed.
I Fortunately have VHI Cover so if I do have to pay to see my Doctor I can claim an amount off them. With my medication I should be able to stock up a bit so I can have enough for a while. One script generally equals 2 months supply for me so I can get the next months script without actually needing it to cover me

We applied for our sons one, with all the necessary forms.

They replied back twice saying certain things were missing!

Does everyone get this reply from them. It seems they are just creating extra layers of work for themselves.

A lot of people get this kind of treatment, don't be put off, keep sending in whatever docs requested. I think their hoping most people will give up, its all a numbers game.

This confuses me. I sent away my renewal form at least 8 weeks ago and having heard a peep. But I've been to my GP all since then and each time they are able to tell me with just a click of a mouse that my card has been extended for another month. Why can your GP not just check ?

I'll be ringing the doctor's ASAP if that is the case, it nearly killed us to pay out that money to the doctors over the last few months. I even printed out the online status to show them, but it was no good.

Just got off the phone with Client Reg: Apparently they have 2 renewals under different reference numbers, seemingly the processing team opened up a 2nd review when they received the documentation ignoring the reference that was on the covering letter. Might be Christmas before it's sorted if past experience is anything to go by......

Just checked online and the card has been issued with effect from yesterday !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,625 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

still waiting, I was told we should have rang medical card people and asked for cover to be held for another month, but a we didn't do this when the card ended

, we can't do it now, according to the helpline.

they will also not tell me if the card will say 1st of April or the date they will issue it.

if it doesn't say 1st of April there will be a break in cover and we will loose the money we paid to the doctor.

    so stressed.

that wasn't me, I tried to get then to do this but they said they couldn't as the card has expired.

I may call again on Monday and see if a different person gives me a different answer.
