Help on what to use with sketching on canvas?

Hello lately I've been getting into painting on canvas. I paint football crests and sell them to friends. Only problem is, I use the grid technique to get everything in perfect proportion. I use a light 4H pencil to sketch the drawing but when I paint over it the paint it doesn't always cover the lines, it's ok with darker colours but very annoying with light colours, I sometimes have to go over it 4-5 times to cover the lines.

Is there anything you's can think of that I can use to sketch with which is really light???

What kind of paint are you using? How about using chalk for the sketch?

you might have to use white along with your lighter colour to cover the lead mark.. or failing that, go over the lead mark with black using a fine brush.

This way you will be emphasizing the line rather than trying to hide it. I'd imagine this would look well on a football crest.

I'm using acrylic paint, I seen on youtube a person using light charcoal but I can't see that working well either, I'd probably still have to go over it at least twice.

Acrylic should cover light pencil! And there is a world of difference between charcoal and chalk/pastel.

Different white paints have different transparency levels - this might be useful

I went to the Art Shop today, the woman working there suggested a water soluble pencil. I bought that but it didn't work, the paint smudges it and looks horrible. But I did by chance by a pack of water colour pencils, I've been using the yellow and it's working quite well can't see the pencil coming through
