    Hi all,
I was wondering if you could help me out and answer a few questions I have.
I am currently a 5th year student and I am already researching college courses in order to find out what suits me best. I have my heart set on secondary school teaching and I feel the best way to go about this would be to an arts degree/ BA Joint honours (German). The 2 subjects I would be most likely taking to degree level would be german and geography as those are the subjects I would like to teach.
However I have seen on a number of threads that doing an arts degree only leads to unemployment etc. Is this true? I would also do a H.Dip after my 3 years of studying in order to become a teacher. Also, does anyone know what number placements are like for this course (BA Joint Honours German)? Does everyone who applies get accepted? And would anyone be able to tell me what Arts in general is like in UCD.
    Any help appreciated,
    Thanks :)

The three main types of people that I know that are currently out of work are people with Engineering degrees, Science (unspecialised) and Arts. Arts is primarily suited to Civil Service, and as there's a hiring embargo in place in most aspect of public service, it is currently quite difficult to get work with a BA. Engineers are out of work because there simply isn't much engineering work available atm.

But in 3-5 years' time that could all have changed around. You want to become a teacher - that's a solid career decision. There's no reason why you shouldn't pursue it.

The only major problem in Arts in UCD that it's so large it can quite overwhelming, and be a bit hard to make friends.
