It is extremely rare I back so many horses in a day, but three have stood out for me tomorrow and I have backed each of them.

Handy Andy 7.00 Wincanton was handicapped up to his eyeballs I thought after he won at Cheltenham, risen to 131 from a mark of 123 but really caught the eye last time in a hotter race than this, travelling strongly and holding every chance three out before hitting that hard. He was only beaten 9 lengths in to 4th miles clear of the rest. I backed the fav last time when second off only a pound lower, but the horses is as inconsistent as they come and probably says enough about the race when he is head of the market. Incidentally, the race is named in honour of Joe Tizzard's retirement and this is trained by his father, probably an extra incentive to win. Backed it to win at 10s

Dumbarton 6.40 Carlisle won a maiden hurdle for Gordon Eliott in Ireland but has changed hands a couple of times since. He went off 7/4 favourite last August for a handicap hurdle off a mark of 127, not beaten far in third when getting no room at a crucial stage. Since then he has been in poor form, but caught the eye off a mark of 125 in a good handicap at Wetherby in October when a close third. Badly out of sorts since, but is really coming down the weights. Runs off a mark of 108 tomorrow in what is its easiest ask in a while, he could go well in what isn't the strongest at 16/1

The last is the really regressive Evens and Odds at Southwell. 16/1 as well, he will find the favourite hard to beat but he is down to a basement mark, and ran his best race for a long time over 5 furlongs when only beaten 3 lengths. Has won at Southwell and over this distance, he could be ready to strike soon though isn't one for a house job

    Thursday Pricewise

9-1 Tres Coronas will love getting his toe in

IF THERE is one thing you never want to do when betting at Chester it’s use your brain. Anyone who tries to use it to find a few winners will soon come unstuck. Yesterday the Chester Cup was won by a
low-drawn horse ridden by Ryan Moore. What more was there to know? And the sprint handicap was ridiculous, with anything drawn higher than stall seven having no chance.
The problem is as soon as you fall in with the norm, a badly drawn runner wins or your selection gets hampered about fifty times. It is then that punting at Chester becomes incredibly frustrating.
Today there is the added complication of rain – and potentially lots of it – which could result in loads of non-runners. Hopefully that won’t be the case, but I expect the ground to be quite soft and for that reason Tres Coronas is worth backing in the opening IG Handicap (1.45).
Tres Coronas has a good record at Chester and has been in decent form this season, starting off when not beaten far into eighth in the Lincoln in March. The form of that race could hardly have worked out better, while last time he had no chance when held up in a slowly run affair at Epsom.
With plenty of pace likely this afternoon, it will be disappointing if Tres Coronas isn’t involved from a mark only 1lb higher than when third in last season’s Cambridgeshire.
Course-and-distance winner Marcret is going to be popular as he will like the ground and won the Huxley Stakes on this day two years ago. He’s likely to go well if Danny Tudhope can get him snuggled in near the rail from stall nine.
The feature race, the MBNA Chester Vase, doesn’t look that good on paper, but we said the same a year ago before subsequent Derby winner Ruler Of The World hacked up. The one really top horse in the
line-up could be Orchestra, who looked good when winning his maiden at Tipperary last season. However, I have it in the back of my mind that Aidan O’Brien’s horses, bar Australia, aren’t that good this year, a point highlighted by the fact a Ballydoyle colt has yet to win a recognised trial. They usually win them all.
Perhaps Romsdal will score for John Gosden, but really it’s a bit of a guessing game as to how good he is and therefore this is not a race that looks punter friendly, unless you know for sure the ability of the Irish runners.
If the rain arrives Noble Mission will probably repeat his Sandown victory over Telescope in the Betfair Price Rush Huxley Stakes, although he surely won’t be allowed as much rope out front as he was on that occasion.
The one runner certain to go on the ground if it turns soft is Our Gabrial in the Boodles Diamond Handicap (3.15).
Jamie Spencer made a mess of the Chester Cup yesterday and really should have won the race with a bit to spare, so hopefully he will be more circumspect
on Our Gabrial, who has improved a lot since fitted with blinkers.
In hindsight he did really well when second on his latest start at Southwell as he gave 7lb to the well-handicapped Swivel, who has scored twice since and was just touched off here yesterday.
The beautifully bred Muteela is a massive danger if she handles the ground and manages to tuck in from her wide draw.

    Advice

    Tres Coronas
    1.45 Chester
1pt win at 9-1 with Hills and Paddy Power

    Our Gabrial
    3.15 Chester
1pt win at 7-1 with Paddy Power (13-2 Boylesports)

    Good Luck all.

    Makafeh 14-1 ew 1.45 Chester
Should do well here, ground should not be a problem. Decent draw
Ran well fresh last year. Low weight & fact I have no clue what I'm talking about .Jockey riding some huge prices winners of late.:o

I like Seagull Star in the Chester Vase (2.45), ran a fine race on his comeback and breeding suggests (By Sea the Stars out of a Yorkshire Oaks 2nd) this extra 2f could be another plus. Was fairly well fancied that day so couldn't be sure if he will come on a lot for it, but this doesn't look a great race and I couldn't place too much faith in O'Brien's two going on this years results so far. Oh and PP are doing MB on 2nd and 3rd!

I fancy Muteela to win the 3.15 handicap, looked a decent yoke winning at Beverly last time out and was keeping an eye out, but at only 5/2 its probably not worth the punt

Automated at 25s in the 14:45 Chester Vase.
Four races so far with four different jockeys, hammered in three of them.
I'm hoping he is better on good ground, and at this longer distance.
An eight runner race with four horses fancied. Confusing.

Taking Shamiana at 12/1 (Corals) in the 1:55 at Southwell. Horse has shown its best form at Southwell and while the 2 favourites might be too strong, I think it'll get in the places at least.

Going with Morito du Berlais 7-1 first at newton abbot, first time tongue tie and cheekpieces might sort him out.

Picked one from each of the opening two posts on this thread.

Tres coronas is a good start. Got 13/2 last night so not sure how rule 4's will affect that but have a nicely staked EW double now running onto HANDY ANDY.

    I trust in you Urban.

Fingers crossed Tom. Very strong in the market now 6s

Fancy Ektihaam in the 2.15, Think his aggresive style will suit chester he's well drawn and is the form pick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,931 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

    2:15 - Noble Mission (11/4)
    2:45 - Orchestra (4/1)
    8:40 - Taniokey (5/2)

All in a treble with Noble Mission and Taniokey in a double.

    GL all.

Noble mission is really coming good now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Monster performance from Noble Mission there considering how quick he went and that he couldn't get to the front at the start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,931 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Thought James Doyle blew that, but fair play, he knew he had enough horse under him to make all.

Have no idea why Telescope was backed so short, do people just ignore the form when Ryan Moore is onboard?

Was a complete monkey at 3 and 4 but hes seemed to mature a lot at 5.

Not sure why Moore went up to noble mission so early, could have let him burn off more petrol and pounced a bit later. Backed Ektihaam for the last time anyway, lunatic.

I still wouldn't write Telescope off yet I think he needed that run today. I think there will be a marked improvement next time out and over 1m 4f.

    1st 5 Orchestra (IRE) 3/1 f
    2nd 6 Romsdal 9/2
    3rd 7 Scotland (GER) 7/1

Fancied Muteela but he is on a fair drift maybe they are worried about the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Hanagan just got thrown off Muteela.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Muteela withdrawn, Hanagan is in a jock.

I am not going to knock Joseph, he's a decent rider without question. But if you're the pre-eminent flat racing operation in Europe, then surely you should be looking at the very best jockey.

What a ****ing ride and that's why he's the best. Wonder what that hit in running.

    Treble for Moore.

    Backed Memory Cloth earlier.

Still well treated on old form, great draw and loves the mud.

Joseph already has his Derby ride sorted, Moore will most likely be put up on the better of O'Brien's Derby Trial horses when there are a few running in a race.

Id imagine the last thing he wants is to be back in Ireland though? Seems to me he has the best of both worlds at the moment. The rides he gets from O'Brien aren't too far away from what Joseph gets really.

Going to give nothing is forever a crack of the whip in the 8:30 wincanton @ 4/1. Ran well lto in a higher grade and won this last year. Would worry if the rain came as wins on good/firm. Hopefully this has been the target.

I don't think he'd have to base himself here. He could simply fly over for the big group races (there aren't that many truly important ones) and let Joseph take the second string. You'd really be focusing Ryan on the elite of racing (English classics, Breeders Cup, Meydan, Hong Kong, etc.).

looks a very solid ew bet at 5s given its course form which
    read 3/1/10/2/1
was well backed lto over c+d also into 7/2 from an opening 13/2
very hard to see it out of the frame imo
taking 5s myself and hoping the money comes

Not one winner from my three. Handy Andy fared best runner up backed into 5s. Evens and Odds somehow traded at 6/1 from a BSP of about 45, not sure who was backing it that low

Was more than a little worried with big drift but the bigger the price the bigger the certainty or so some bankrupt punter once declared :) . With Francies tip on the other thread working the oracle, not a bad finish to the boardies evening. Glad some of you were on. Worked out today.
