Is there any value in film cameras these days? I have a canon 30v that i got about 10 years that has seen very little use as i got into digital soon after. Is there any market for a camera like that?

as with everything else , it depends. Good way to check if people are paying for stuff is to look at EBay completed auctions in which the item actually sold. In the case of that 30v it's gone for anything between £30 to £120 or so. Also depends on what condition it's in, accessories, lenses etc etc

Yeah, loads of value. About €25-€30 or close to it. It's better than it sitting on a shelf in your house. A lot of people fall into the trap of thinking their film camera should be worth a lot because they paid a lot for it and haven't used it that much. Have a look on adverts.ie and you'll soon see what people are willing to pay.

For that kind of money i'm not sure its worth the time and effort. hmmmm.

Why not? €30 is €30. I recently almost threw out a really old fuji digital camera. Someone here on boards posted a request for one to teach kids in a disadvantaged area. I gave it to her and it went to good use. Perhaps you could give yours to a charity shop if you don't want the trouble of selling it. Just don't put it up on adverts for free. Brings out all the crazy weirdos apparently.

€30 isnt enough to have to deal with all the scammers and timewasters on adverts.ie or any other sales site. Plus i would only ever hand it over in person for cash. Its just not worth the hassle.

I might drop Fajitas a PM and see if he knows any students that might want it.

Not wanting to harp on about it if you're dead set against, but Adverts is actually a pretty easy place to deal in film cameras.

In the electronics sections all kinds of cheapskates and timewasters come out of the woodwork, but it's mostly enthusiasts buying film cameras.

You can put it up with the proviso that you'll only accept the asking price and that it's collection only.

Or give it away... whatever you prefer.

If you decide to give it away, I'd make good use of it here: http://touch.boards.ie/thread/2057189549/1/#post89928486

You'll still get bs offers and people wanting swaps.

am i missing something? the only 30vs i can see offered on ebay are asking over €200, now i know that they might not get what they are asking - recent sold ones that i can see haven't gone for less than €100.

€30 would be giving it away, no?

Personally, i own a film camera with its own lenses - but i have to admit i'd be interested in using my canon lenses with a film camera like the OP's. I wouldn't spend more than €50 on that though - and only then if it was convenient to pick up.

Open BINs on EBay aren't a realistic way to determine what something's worth. Look at completed listings in which the item actually sold (ones with green prices as opposed to red ones).

i see that alright, but these don't seem to come up that often, the OP could be lucky??

That said i think selling on ebay is more hassle than its worth for one off sales - paypal and ebay fees add up to take a good chunk of the margin out of it - i've had much better outcomes as a seller on adverts and donedeal - also its often nice to meet the person who's excited to buy your piece of equipment that you enjoyed but no longer get use out of.

Best place I've found to judge prices is http://www.ffordes.com/ They have a huge stock of second hand cameras for sale of every variant. Now they rate the camera and offer a guarantee so you'd have to lower your price, but that'll give you an idea of its worth.

They don't have a 30v for sale but the slightly older 30 is going for around £80 when it's in decent condition.
