Paying tax for playing music

    Hi all.
I currently have a full time job in retail. I play some music every now and then it's fairly sporadic and just wondering should I set it up to pay tax on what I earn. Have done 35-40 gigs this year and approx €6000. What would be the best way to go about this as I obviously don't want to get caught as people and bands are being checked a lot lately.
Thanks in advance for any replies

Register with IMRO for a start.

You'd need to register for self-assessment and declare the self-employed income earned doing the gigs. Like any self-employed income you will be able to offset travel / equipment expenses against anything earned. Contact your local income tax office for more info.

As far as I know IMRO only worry about charging you royalties for playing covers / charging other people royalties for covering your original material.

They do a lot more than that...

And no, they don't 'charge' you for covering materiel. That would be the PPI.
