Personal statements for postgrad applications

    Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of applying for the MA Journalism (either for 2014 or 2015) and I am just wondering if anyone has advice about the personal statement. I've just noticed that the print version of the prospectus (the PDF download) says that the personal statement of intent should be "c.300 words", which is very little space! The NUIG website and the PAC applications page don't state any word limit, so I had already prepared a personal statement that is far longer than that.

Now I don't know what to do. I don't want to cut my chances by submitting something that's far too long, but I also don't want to sell myself short by summarising it into 300 words - I imagine that a lot of people don't download the PDF prospectus and just go by the website, so other applicants probably have written longer statements.

Has anyone here applied for this course before? Can you remember what your personal statement was like?

    Thanks :)

Hi, I found this on the NUIG website:

"Personal statement: all applicants must enclose a typed personal statement of approximately 600 words explaining why you wish to undertake the programme(s) of your choice, outlining how it fits into your career objectives, unless indicated otherwise in the table below." From Here: www.nuigalway.ie/postgrad/pac_supp_docs_taught_arts.html

So I'd go with around 600 words. Hope it helps and good luck! :)
