Depends really. Do you want to overclock?

    Well then.

    Personally I'd rather the Xeon.

1 if you are selling the rig later on it will hold its value better.

2 like you said newer games may utilise the xeon better thanks to new consoles now containing 8 core CPUs.for Example the upcoming game watchdogs recommended settings for pc is an I7 or 8350 AMD.

Remains to be seen if there is real gains till benchmarks pop up.

If you're not overclocking than there is zero point in getting the 4670k anyway.

The Xeon is the far better option.

I'm annoyed because at the moment I have a 4670K but a non OC capable mitx motherboard/build. I'd love to have that Xeon! :P

Is the gigabyte G1 Sniper z87 compatible with this processor. Or is there something much better you can recommend. Willing to spend 90-120max

You don't need a z87 board they are more designed with overclocking in mind. A decent h87 board will do, Asus pro, or asus mpro. About 80-90. Both good quality boards.

But you can also get an asrock h87 mobo about 60 ish.
