I'm looking for a trolling motor suitable for a 16ft Canadian canoe. I want it to be capable of returning the boat back up stream to the vehicle, so possibly a couple of hours of against the river flow.

    Is this doable?

Any suggestions on brands & lb of thrust required & what AH battery would I require? Hoping to stick with a single 12v battery.

Hey I only know about these as I was given one by my uncle a couple of months ago as he bought it but only used it once for his canoe. He is 78 and decided to retire.

It's a Minn Kota Riptide which from what I can tell is a premium brand, with 40lb thrust and 5 forward speeds / 3 reverse its pretty good. These cost about 600€ new but you can get non branded chineese ones for a good lot less.

My one is paied with a marine leisure battery that is in a home made tool box kiding and water proof connections to the motor.

I'll stick up some photos in a bit.

trolling motors are not very common in canoes in Ireland but are huge in the US.

Yes, please do. I would be interested alright. My only concern is would the 40lb thrust be enough to get upstream in a river.
For €600 I can pick up a 2.5HP Suzuki petrol motor that weighs 18kg & that's new. I've also seen the Minn Kota a lot cheaper than €600.

There you go Minn Kota RipTide 40 (Salt water model) Has never seen use. I haven't been really bothered to sell it but €350 as is including brand new Marine Leisure Battery (in box and weather proof connections) would buy it off me.

Regarding the thrust from what I have seen online / youtube 40 is loads unless you are tring to push up against a massive flow.

Thanks a million for that, but I literally just bought a 54lb one with battery & charger only yesterday.

Jayus sorry for the slow reply, I'm not really pushed on selling it as you might have guessed. Might have some fun with it at some stage.

Best of luck with your new purchase, be great to see some video of it in action.
