Going from dissability to invalidity pension

I'm only 30 this year (29 now) but I can't work due to extreme difficulties at work regarding paranoia and not feeling like I can meet expectations, thinking people are talking about me etc. which has, it seems, led me to develop the neurological condition epilepsy which is controlled via medication and stress management (i.e. stress reduction) - luckily I have got a place in a social housing scheme - strange going from a good well paid job, it took me a long time to accept but now I have become more acceptive that I belong at the lowest end of the social scale in this country where others are working to keep my life normal and sustainable.

People might look at me and think that fella is perfectly normal, confident with a smile, lovely dog but I prefer to look and act poor in this new place to match the way I feel inside.

I understand that the invalidity pension is taxed so I don't know what I will be getting every week. I will ring social welfare but an idea would be great.....people in my situation are poor and have the basics and that's it - nothing extra. We don't have the pet allowance that others seem to have.

I hope I will be able to keep my medical card....it's tough, I have a little kitty after selling my car but it's running out fast - I'm trying to make a comfortable place for me to live in and call a home....I suppose it's fair to say that I'm handicapped; while not physicially I cannot operate the way others do such as reading body language and social queues due to aspergers. I have also been upped on my anti-d effexor to nearly max dose now. I want to feel good and know how I stand financially.

Any help and advice appreciated here. Forgive my rambling please but I'm a bit drunk and drowsy also due to medication.

I don't type her or contribute much but sure I'm not perfect - I have things to offer like computer issues advice etc. That is one thing that I can do with this benefit - some hours for therapy type purposes.

    Thanks.

Op you are correct invalidity pension is taxable. You can find information here http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/disability_and_illness/invalidity_pension.html
You can ring the tax office to get an idea of the tax implications.
Also AFAIK there is no such thing as a pet allowance.:)
