My old favourite is out tomorrow - Masamah has won me quite a few quid over the years. Will give him another go tomorrow.

Im sure the good old doctor will get plenty of mentions tomorrow as well, like he always does during this meeting.

    Wed Pricewise.
Brockwell worth a bet at 16-1 for Dascombe

Chester is one of those marmite tracks. Some people love it for punting purposes, while there are loads of others who can never get it right, writes Tom Segal.
It seems so easy. Identify a pacey horse drawn low whatever the trip and don’t try to make it any more complicated than that. If only it was that simple!
Even in the StanJames.com Chester Cup (2.45) over two and a quarter miles, a low draw is clearly a help because you don’t want to be trapped out wide covering loads of ground, but it can also be a hindrance for a hold-up horse due to traffic problems. For that reason I anticipate a few problems for Paul Hanagan on the favourite Mubaraza.
This horse is extremely consistent and should really have won at Ripon last time when hitting the front way too soon. Therein lies the problem because he is going to need to be held up for a late run, and with the rails in he will need some luck.
Exactly the same sentiments apply to Angel Gabrial, who beat Mubaraza last time. In his favour is the fact Jamie Spencer rides and there is no one better at finding the gaps, but at the prices I reckon it could be worth chancing Brockwell despite his double-figure draw.
It’s not as bad as it first seems as the two reserves were drawn inside him and so in essence he’s in stall 11 and I can’t believe there is a race Tom Dascombe wants to win more than the Chester Cup.
On last year’s form he has at least as good a chance as Mubaraza as they dead-heated for third in the Northumberland Plate and Brockwell is better off at the weights today.
Dascombe has left nothing to chance by taking him away for a racecourse gallop and if he can grab a nice position from his draw, I expect him to run a huge race.
Dascombe has a good chance of winning the Stellar Group Handicap (3.15) as well with course specialist Ballista, who comes here hard fit after a winter on the sand. He’s better on turf and especially at this track and Dascombe has opted for the cheekpieces to sharpen him up a bit.
A slightly lower draw than seven would have been ideal, but Ballista is very fast and I can see him slotting in behind the super speedy Caspian Price and pouncing close home.
The horses drawn one to four all look to have solid chances but there is so much pace that it stacks up well for a horse who can sit in behind the leaders. Ballista is just such a horse.
I doubt if the Weatherbys Private Banking Cheshire Oaks (2.15) is going to have any bearing on the Epsom version next month as it doesn’t look that great a race. Terrific is undoubtedly the form horse and she has had a run, so with Aidan O’Brien having won three of the last six runnings of the race she is clearly the one to beat.
However, she’s by no means brilliant on what she’s shown and I reckon one of the more unexposed types can beat her.
Bright Approach is the obvious one but she’s drawn on the outside and instead I reckon it could be worth siding with the maiden Brown Diamond. Her pedigree screams middle distances and she finished off her race really well in what was undoubtedly a good maiden at Newbury on her reappearance.
She is sure to improve for that run and the step up in trip and she holds all the big-race entries for a stable that does well at Chester.

    Toay's bets

    Brown Diamond
    2.15 Chester
1pt win at 10-1 with bet365, Hills, Ladbrokes & Paddy Power

    Brockwell
    2.45 Chester
1pt win at 16-1 with Boylesports & Ladbrokes

    Ballista
    3.15 Chester
1pt win at 10-1 with Coral (9-1 with Hills)

Pretty impressed by Roudees debut, in the first 2mo(would be an aptly name winner). That run has been franked fairly nicely, stall 9 too much over 5 though?

Tis actually worth following Mickey Owens twitter over next few days, fairly certain he's thrown out a few winners from Dascombes yard over the past few years, has plenty involved this week as per usual.

My old fella used to have a share in a horse that is making a seasonal reappearance tomorrow (Northern Executive). Horse filled out quite nicely over the Winter and we're expecting it to win a race at some point this year. Tomorrow is probably not the day though.

Going for Communicator in the Chester Cup. Fairly weighted, good claiming jockey, trainer in form, course winner and most importantly great draw.

    Brown Diamond (2-15 Chester) 10/1

This one went straight into the tracker after its recent run at Newbury over a mile. Held up out the back she made smooth progress under a tender ride to finish 3rd beaten one and a half lengths. The form of that maiden has taken a few knocks since but it was really taking the way she quickened up in the later stages. The maiden she ran in last year when making her debut has worked out quite nicely throwing up a number of subsequent winners

She holds an Oaks entry so the yard obviously feel that stamina wont be an issue and that the step up to 1m 3f today will bring out further improvement. My main concern as always around Chester is that it can be difficult for horses who like to be held up to negotiate a clear passage but if things go right for her today I'm hopeful she can run a really big race.

I went to Chester in 2012 and was amazed by how tight the track is. It seems to me that you need to have a very good horse to come from behind there. On the day that I was there every horse that led at the furlong pole went on to win. It's a very nice track for front-runners.

interesting that the owners of the favorite in the first at Chester also have the well backed Jonjo horse in the 8:00 @ Worcester.
they must be on to win a fair wedge with the double being about 20/1 this morning.

Whats the fascination with Marwan Kukash at Chester?

Only bet, taking a chance on the extremely well bred Computer in the maiden. He did finish behind the favorite last time but think he shaped better than the result suggests. Worth a chance at 5/1

He lives nearby - his local track so he likes to have runners there ( & the odd winner if possible)

    That's why.

"Interesting" ride on Top Cop. Hughsie either stole a march on the second or he was just caught napping. Didn't really go after him then either...
