Have you driven the a4 Octavia or Passat yet? Can you appreciate the differences between those 3 first?

A friend has an 2010 A4 TDI and have driven the 2011 Passat TDI and they are both very good, Both good looking cars too but i have not driven the Octavia but probably it would be similar....

so how does the i40 stack up, its cheaper anyway is it not?

The Octavia is from the class below and similar to a Golf/Jetta. The Octavia has a large boot but rear legroom is tight. i40 is a good car and comes with generous equipment and a good warranty. 1.7 CRDi only came in 115bhp here unless you go for the auto which had 136bhp. A good few UK imports around though which had the option of 136bhp in manual.

Passat CC also worth a look?

Always wondered which was the best the passat, octavia or i40

The Octavia is not directly comparable to the other two as it is from the segment below similar to a Golf.

so what about the other two, overall which is the best car

The Passat, much as I hate them, is still a fine car, despite being 9 years old.
Mate of mine has a Comfortline and to be fair, the attention to detail on them is ahead of anything in that class.
I do think the Hyundai is made of better stuff underneath though, and if German is your thing, this don't matter a jot.

I'd have an i40 over a Passat, but given the option I'd take an A4 over both.

The i40's interior is cack. Along with the new ceed. The korean manufacturers may have come on leaps and bounds in terms of the exterior styling but interior layout, build quality and material used are still way behind the germans. Especially the ceed. Awful cars. Skoda is a good buy, great quality for less than the VW/Audi cousin.

If you measure quality by how soft the plastics are then fair enough.
