Hello, I was hoping for some advice about the legal limits of windscreen sunstrips, as the visors in my van are beyond useless on a sunny day.

I'm told there is a limit on the how far down the windscreen a strip can extend, can anyone confirm this??

Also, is there a limit to how dark it can be??

    Tganks

no limit to how dark it can be, but it cannot extend into the area covered by the wiper blades is what i've heard.

it's a bit of an unfair rule because if the manufacturer tint in the glass covers some of the area wiped by the wipers, then its ok, but if you stick on an aftermarket tint to do the same, you fail the NCT.

    Thanks for that.

I'm screwed so, one of my wipers reaches the whole way up.

I'm assuming that fixing the strip to the inside of the glass wouldn't make a difference?? Whose to say its aftermarket then??

I had a similar scenario on my car - it has an inbuilt tint in the top part of the windshield glass, which doesnt extend very far but since the wipers extend all the way up the glass (similar to yours), it did cover some of the area swept by the wiper.

When I first got the car 3 yrs ago, I put in a darker tint sunstrip as well. Had no problem passing NCT then, but this year the NCT people decided to fail it for the sunstrip.

My sunstrip was on the inside of the glass - I think most sunstrips and tints are only designed to be put in on the inside of the glass

NCT is specific about stickers in the line of vision or tints exceeding 65%
    1Windscreen missing.
2Windscreen not marked as safety glass.
3In vehicle registered on or after 1st January 1986 windscreen is not
marked as shown in Schedule 1 or to an equivalent standard.
4Objects or stickers in drivers direct line of vision.
5Damaged beyond acceptable limits. See page 26.
6Glass has a visible light transmission level of less than 65%.

You should ask if it fails on which point it fails
