    Hi all,

I am looking for an alternate way out to the airport from Blanchardstown for say an early morning shift starting at 5am. I do not drive and I know there was a bus service at one point but is no longer available. I have considered cycling as an option but does anyone know of any others?

Thank you in advance, advice would be really appreciated.

That's pretty much impossible to do by any other way than cycling or taxi that early in the morning.

For that time there's no bus. Ordinarily you could get the 17 to santry and get the 41 or 16 the rest of the way

There doesn't seem to be any thing between 1am and 7am. Might car-pooling be an option?

If you can get yourself to Liffey Valley s.c., perhaps by bicycle?? there is a bus service that'd get you to the airport for about 4:30

have a look at these lads who specifically cater for airport staff on early/ late shifts and they'll organise something to suit you

their pricing isnt cheap, but is still a fraction of the cost of a taxi and they mention you may even be able to claim tax back against it or something

I wonder if Dublin Bus (or someone else) ran a route from somewhere at the edge of the m50 like Tallaght and then carried on through to Lucan, Blanch before heading to the airport would it attract much custom and be profitable ? It really is crazy that people who can see planes taking off from their kitchen windows in places like Blanch, Finglas etc are actually some of the furthest away in the whole city from the airport when it comes to getting there by public transport.

The Urbus used to run between Blanch and Swords via the airport. I used to get it over three years ago for a while and I found it a really frustrating experience. Such a winding route and it took so long.

    Airport Hopper http://www.airporthopper.ie/ have Tallaght-Clondalkin-Liffey Valley-Airport and Maynooth-Lucan-Liffey Valley-Airport routes.

Extending the 17a to the airport would fix that for the likes of blanch, finglas, coolock, santry , ballymun etc

But would upset the large numbers of people who use it on its existing east-west route.

Just looked at the 17a route map there and it would have to go a good bit off course to go into the airport and back before carrying on its route.

Perhaps a solution would be to extend the terminus of the 140 from Ikea into the airport ? That way residents of northern Ballymun/ Northwood would have a link to the airport as well as large parts of Finglas, Glasnevin, Phibsboro, all the way to Rathmines. The 140 crosses over the 17a route in Finglas village so that would give people from Blanch a way to get to the airport without having to go into the city center first.

17a crosses 16/41/33 at santry ave/swords road so there already is a connection available.

It's not exactly a great connection though, since pretty much the whole of D15 would need three buses to get to the airport via that route, one to get to Blanch Centre, antoher to Santry and another to the airport.
