Does anyone have any opinions of the aftermarket warranties you can purchase for your car? Are they very restrictive in what they cover?

Yes, they are restrictive. Mapre are the main one and IMHO they are not worth the paper they are written on. Dealers who sell these generally are selling cars at the cheapest price point for the year. You could buy a 3 year old car which is the cheapest going and it could be a bargain or it could be a ball of sh1te. Don't rely on an insurance policy to get you out of trouble.

I have the car already, I'm just wondering if a warranty might be a good idea. €695 for two years including breakdown cover seems reasonable if it covers the main gremlins.

700 Euro would fix a lot of gremlins. Generally they are so restricted that your better off saving the money for an actual repair then gambling that it'll be covered.

Read the policy from start to finish before you buy it. See what it covers. Your car insurance policy probably has breakdown cover on it already.

Go into it with your eyes open. If you think its good value then buy it. Just be wary.

Either way, you must have only bought the car very recently so I wish you the very best of luck with it.
