My friend has photoshop but I know I don't need a large percentage of it's features and functions.

I know it's expensive but I can go to his house anytime.

Can anybody recommend what what suit me best?

    Thanks.

    What OS?

Darktable for Mac or Linux looks good (similar to Lightroom or Aperture) - http://www.darktable.org/ ?

GIMP for layered editing on PC (I really don't get on with this) http://www.gimp.org/

PS Elements isn't expensive, but I'd go for Lightroom instead personally.

or you could go for Photoshop CS2 as Adobe have switched off the activation servers, and trust you have a licence...
