Looking for a few recommendations on a good basic smart phone I bought a HTC wildfire couple of years ago after have a nokia "brick" for decades. Whilst it has served me well I want to upgrade. I need way more storage on it for apps/photos and a front facing camera. I don't want a phone that has too much tech stuff on it just the basics and not interested in a massive screen the wildfire size was perfect for my ickle hands but the HTC one et all the newer ones are too big for me. So it's a nice size camera, with lots of storage and front facing camera looked and held a few dont like the feel of the Sony and not gone on IPhones. So guess it's a throw up between Samsung and HTC. Husband has HTC one but whilst picture quality is great and it's pretty impressive it's way too big for me.

    Step 1 - buy Moto G 16GB
Step 2 - Close thread enjoy phone

Honestly no phone touches it for bang for buck, it just does what its supposed and does it flawlessly. Only downside is the camera isnt amazing, now its perfect for everyday use but if you are big into cameras you may want to try it in store before you buy, now it will be night and day compared to your Wildfire but would be outclassed by most Flagships.

No brainer, Moto G at the price it's at blows everything else out of the water. You get a 'premium' smartphone at a budget price :)

The Moto G is excellent value and I'd also throw in a recommendation. It's dirt cheap and has excellent specs for the price. Much better bang for your buck compared to the flagships.

However, just note that like Nexus devices, the Moto G has no SD expansion, so if storage is a massive deal, then you'll need to decide if 16GB is enough. For me it is, I copy stuff regularly from my phone to my computer and clear it out. Also I have a few games on my phone that are over 1GB each. I think if you're just saving photos it should be alright but you'll have to make that decision for yourself.

If money is no object and if you're going on a contract, you might then be able to get a flagship, but if you're just looking for an out-of-contract prepay phone or one that's unlocked, €150-200 for a Moto G is just unprecedented. You could get one on Amazon for about £160, unlocked, or on Meteor for about €150 prepay.

If the Moto G doesn't suit your storage requirements then post back with more details and a price range, and whether you intend to buy on contract or off (which is of course a major deal in terms of price).

The nexus doesnt wow me enough to justify the large price difference between it and the Moto G. I had a Samsung S4 and I find the moto G pretty amazing. The screen is so clear and its very fast. My only issue is the camera being a bit ****ty. But unless you have a high spec phone, camera phone photos are still only ok

A One mini would be a good alternative, still has a flagship like Camera experience and 4g ready is well.
