    Hi

A party of 3 are visiting from the UK for the One Republic concert at the O2 in October.

Party is made as follows: 2 adults and 17 year in wheelchair

It is on Sunday 19 October.

Initial plans looking at the cost are to fly in on either Saturday or Sunday and stop for 1 or 2 nights and fly back on Monday.

Flying is cheaper than ferry at this stage.

Looking for recommendations on places to visit - Accessible ones please

Also any hotel recommendation that can accommodate us - The Jurys Inn looks nearest to the O2.

    All help appreciated

    Thanks

Louis Fitzgerald on Naas Road have wheelchair rooms. It might be that little bit out for you though.

Most of the museums (certainly the bigger ones) are pretty OK for wheelchair access.

The Luas tram system is also fully wheelchair accessible and the busses should mostly have ramp access. They're not too different to the UK. Same for the trains too.

    Tourism Authority info:

and : http://www.iwa.ie Irish Wheelchair Association might have info.

O2 has a pretty good reputation among wheelchair users, given that it was completely rebuilt on the inside fairly recently. The lifts aren't evacuation lifts, so in an emergency, their plan will be to transfer the wheelchair user into an evacuation chair, which isn't a great experience.

The parking or set-down facilities aren't great, so you might be better off finding a hotel on the red Luas (tram) line, or better still, one of the hotels within walking distance.

    Enjoy the gig.

You may also want to check with whoever you're buying your tickets for the concert from that they are seats for the wheelchair section. There is a reserved area for wheelchair users on the second floor with limited capacity and the rest of the seats are tiered. Also for safety reasons (so I'm told ;)) the wheelchair user would not be allowed to be on the ground floor standing area. There is a service lift beide the wheelchair section which I think can be used in an emergency but as of yet that hasnt occured

Tickets are from the O2 direct, we were only allowed 1 carer with wheelchair user and had to call later that day to ensure we could have another ticket.

    Thanks

Just to let people know the outcome:

Stayed at the Maldron on Cardiff Lane

    Walked to / from the 3 Arena / O2

    Very easy access to concert

Good door staff, made entrance a dream

Escorted to seating area via a lift

Toilets near to seat - although able bodied person decided to use them

Due to go back in May 2015

    Thanks for all the help

Good to hear it went well for you. Was there any issues exiting the venue? I've heard that they try to steer wheelchair users to a service lift, for some strange reason.

Yes you do exit via a service lift in 1 corner of the arena

Its quite a large lift (approx 3 or 4 wheelchairs could fit in) and there was no "pressure" to go that way, other than it seems it that was the exit

Obviously its a little busier outside afterwards compared to before but it went well

As I say, due back for Take That, so flying in again and staying nearby - looks like the prices have shot up a bit though!

Thanks - just curious as to why they steer you to that particular.

    Sorry for your trouble.

Not sure but it seemed, quite an easy exit

With regards to Take That, I will leave them at the door for that one ;)
