VW Passat key question

    Hi,
My house was robbed on Friday night and they took my 07 Passat, they found the keys and used them to take it.
We by chance came upon it this morning and the Gardai have recovered it but the thieves still have the key so I am assuming they will try and take it again.
We still have one key so is it possible to reprogram the key with a different code rndering the key they have useless?
I also need a key so anyone know how much it would cost for a new key and to reprogram the old key (if possible). Just wondering if its worth going through the insurance?
    Cheers

You can have all existing keys deleted from the immobiliser settings and re-add the ones you have physically. Keys are not that cheap either, and for the programming you'll need to go to a dealer or a specialist.

The passat key contains a physical key also within the fob so even after recoding, the key the thief has will still be good to open the doors on your car but wont start it.

yes you can get the missing key 'deprogramed' from the ecu but it will still open the doors but will not start it
