Lidl have a socket set for sale and I'm wondering is it worth getting for basic servicing of a car. I'm hoping to start servicing my own car to save a few quid. (Just changing oil and filters etc. Stating away from brakes and that)
This is the link. Are they decent quality for what I need?

You get what you pay for when it comes to tools i would be carefull with them if you are doing much more than oil and filter.

Is it this one for 89.99?

Ok link wasn't working earlier on!

Seems grand, I'd nearly hold out for the Halfprds advanced set that's often massively reduced.

For what you're doing, the lidl one would be grand though.

Probably too much for what you need it for but halfords have a sale on there socket sets at then moment. Less than half the price it usually is.

I've always found their tools very good and this looks like a great set. I'd have it over the halfords stuff personally.

The halfords stuff has a lifetime warranty to be fair and mine have withstood 6 years of abuse.

Can't argue with the warranty in fairness!

I have a much smaller socket set from lidl, got it as more of a house socket set than one for the car.
Means the good tools won't abused by others.
It does the job, but I wouldn't put much fate in it under a car trying to get a seized bolt off. It feels very flimsy and wobbly.

I'd get the halfords one. Yeah it's a bit more expensive but if you break the socket you can take it down to halfords and they'll replace it for free. No questions asked. You can't get better than that really.

Those lidl ones are good enough, My one had changed suspension in various cars and loads of other bits before it gave up.

Snapped it trying to change a driveshaft that was 180,000 miles old on a civic. In fairness it was being stood and jumped on.

Worth noting that halfords warrantee doesn't extend to the wrenches or ratched spanners.

Yeah isn't that warranty on "non-moving" parts?

I'm not generally a fan of Lidl/Aldi products like that, but that one is pretty decent, especially for that money. Pear-shaped ratchets are a good sign - anything else is the work of Beelzebub! Personally I use the 150pc Halfords Advanced one, among others.

I use a Bahco BHS240 24-piece 1/2'' set for serious horsing. I picked it up a few years back in Cork Builder's Providers for the unbelievable price of €66. You wouldn't break it with a tractor, bah!

Think so, but they sell reapir kits for the rachets to rebuild them.
