Came out to car yesterday morn and saw a big scratch on drivers door....Now when I say big..i dont mean deep but about 8 inchs long and thankfully didnt go through the paint. Even from the way I write that I know I have calmed down...a bit.....not that much though...

In fact I thought it was a black rubber mark or something at first..Its too high to be a door and too "not harsh" to be a bang anyway. Just looks like some piece of scum in a bad mood ran his key along it heavy enough to leave a mark but not enought to do deep damage.

So bottom line (I will add a pic later), how can I fix this..car is pride and joy and a LOT of savings and loan..2 yr old a6...

wanting to kill whoever did it is an understatement :(

What colour is it? Hopefully not silver...

If the damage is potentially as light as you say, a proper polish and compounding may remove it. If you can feel it with your nail, then you'll be looking at a respray, which is where your car being silver or not may have a decent impact on how much it'll cost as you may need adjacent panels blended for it to look right.

yes its the silver one...you cant feel it with your nail..will go out and take a pic now...Its more like a black streak TBH. Wasnt there at 9pm was there at 9am..

If you can't feel it with your nail you might be able to get away with it. Sounds promising anyway!

it might not look that bad...but its hard to ignore with 40k invested.... :(

If its a black rubber mark/ scratch might have been some kid passing on a bike scrope the handle bar of the car?

That's another reason why I'd never buy a new or even pristine used car.

so based on what anyone can see in teh pic if its clear enough, what would you recommend to try fix..its very annoying to look at every time

You'll need to get a pic in daylight/direct light before we can really tell to be honest. Even at that a picture might not capture it well enough, for these things you really need to see them in person to be sure.

But based on your previous description, I would think starting with a clean and a good go with some polish might sort you out. In the short term anyway.

Usually if some fcuker keys a car they'd go deeper than that. Probably an accidental scrape? Still a pain in the hole though

Hi op go into motors section and select car detailing.

    Some great tips and advice.

The paint may need a rotary or da to rectify the marks and that is a car I would hate to have a mark on.

Look up detailing shed on the net and look up on car detailing for poster Curran as he will look after you for what you need.

If you care about your car this might be the kick up the a*s you needed to get into the world of proper care called detailing:P.

Recommend washing car with a microfibre not a sponge then do a full de-tar,wash again, clay the car( this gets all contaminants off the paint/clearcoat surface), wash again, then purchase cutting compound and a finishing polish compound and wash and then buy collinite 845 or similar to seal all the hard work and will look amazing.

i only use a micro fibre to clean and only clean myself. But prob do need to get into more detail. Will have a read. I do need to detar as have noticed a lot of hard to shift spots when cleaning underside of car. hopefuly can sort this fiurst though

Polish or wax will cover for a short time but if machine polish properly it will be gone forever and you will be happy out.

Defo look up car detailing it is a great place for info and ideas.

Is T-Cut still on the go? Or is it not considered any good nowadays?
