I'm seriously looking at one of these. Any horror stories? Anything I need to look out for?

I'm looking at the 3.0 diesel but there are a few 2.7 that I'd look at too.

    Thanks

Lovely car, the 3.0 litre diesel replaced the 2.7 litre. 3.0 litre is more refined, powerful and fuel efficient. It is also €750 to tax versus €1k for the 2.7 litre. 2.7 litre is a Peugeot/Citroen unit but the 3.0 litre is an in-house Jaguar unit. Same engines are used by Land Rover.

I'm interested in the XF myself but I would be a bit reluctant because good Jaguar indy mechanics are thin on the ground in my area due to them being a low volume seller and don't fancy paying main dealer prices.

    Hi lads,

Looking at the 2.2 ltr from 2012. It's fairly impressive 54mpg comparing to Audi A5 which I thought of. Seems to be same price ish also for same year/mileage.

Any watch outs for this model?

    Tks

Doubt you will get 54mpg from the 2.2d in the real world. I'd go for the 3.0d better suited to a car of the XF's stature imo. Most 2.2d models are lower spec and the smaller wheels and single rear exhaust don't look right.

The 3 litre is a development of the same Lion diesel unit as the 2.7 and is used in PSA vehicles too! It is, and the 2.7 was, manufactured by Ford under the Ford/PSA joint venture for Diesel engines.

Is there any differences in 3.0ltr model from 2010 onwards?

I think they got a bhp increase and improved mpg from mid to late 2011.

    Just drove a 2.2 2012 and a 2010 3.0ltr. 3.0 seemed much smoother drive tbh. €750 tax tough.

€750 is relatively cheap for an engine that size and only a small part of the overall running costs. On the old system it would have been over double that.

    Hi Satanta,
Did you buy and if so how did you get on as I am thinking of something similar myself.

Liked the xf myself but i don't know anymore, it really needs a good spec and large wheels to look good now as it is getting on a bit.
It doesn't help that it very much looks the poor relation of the xj.

I had a good look at the XF too last year. I know the 2.2 version when it came out in the uk first was 190bhp and this was the 2.2 version that had the most positive reviews in terms of balance of power, MPG, road tax and style. I think all irish 2.2's are the 163bhp.
There's great value on 3.0 petrol versions if anyone has a severe dislike of diesel

I know what you mean, am looking at some up north, 2010 models, 50k on the clock I was more concerned with reliability etc. what are they like when you put 150k on the clock.

i bought a 131 2.2 (200bhp) version up north earlier this year with 10Kmiles on it. you do need to up the spec to premium luxury but its worth it. i did drive both the 2.2 -163 bhp and found it dead off the lights and didnt like the power delivery at all, the 3.0 is nice but the S version would be the one to go for if you can afford it, it is very smooth and very quick through the ratios. i find the 200bhp 2.2 pretty good, its quick enough off the line, very powerful mid range and delivers 40mpg eaasily enough and has a good ride.....im on 18" vela alloys, id like to upgrade to 19" but not sure if the ride would deteriorate.....overall, ive put about 7K miles on it this year and never had an issue, i think its actually got quicker and more efficient. Always puts a smile on your face when you look out at it and at least its not a 'common as muck' 520d.....!

I'd aim for the facelifted model too, they apparently ironed out alot of issues with the facelift plus it's also alot prettier imo.
