What's the best example of this happening online, in an Irish forum?

A petard is a medieval bomb I think, so being hoisted by it means blowing yourself up.
 Am I right? Do I win a prize?

Boll-ollocking-ox. I've made a great big cock up of the title and made a mistake.

Gentleman, I give you your fool. Very much hoisted, and with his own petard, to boot.

To answer the misspelt opening question, chap I know round here claimed he was the best call of duty in the player, he won the call of duty world championships and they just didn't tell anyone about it, so we invited him to play us at the game one on one. I'm sure you can guess the result.

Gentleman? Good sir, lest us not forget to include the good ladies of AH. Of which there are many amongst us.

Indeed, I apologise for my impetuous, bigoted terminology. I also invite the ladies and women to watch me as I metaphorically pour buckets of excreta over my head as a crowd of assorted gawkers watch and hoot their approval

I assumed hoisted with their own petards was what youngsters called a wedgie thesedays.

The muppets hosting my website could qualify as the biggest petards I've come across. Although I believe "technically-challenged" is the PC way of expressing it. Petards has fallen out of favour.
