There are accountants in near every business I can think of, or they go to specialise accountants.
Engineering on the other hand isn't as widespread.

I can say that after 20+ years working in maintenance and engineering management.

It's also more common for engineers to work unsociable hours in harsher conditions.

If you pick the right engineering course you'll find employment. Bio-medical sounds promising, but that's all I can say about that.

Accountancy is a decent career. You might want to head over to the accounting forum for more varied answers.

Forget about hours and salary for a second - why do you think you might want to be an accountant or an engineer?

If you're picking your degree something to keep in mind is that anyone from any degree can become an accountant, while the reverse is obviously not true for engineers, so studying engineering would keep both options open.

This. Plus accountancy firms hire from a range of backgrounds. An Engineering background would show that you had good analytical skills etc and would help you if you were auditing certain industries etc

Coming from a civil engineering background I would say go for accounting. The money in civil engineering is crap. On the otherhand, if you are interested in Software Engineering, you could be onto a winner there.

There will always be a need for both accountants and engineers, but from my experience, you can make way more money as an accountant.
