Illness benefit

Hi, just hoping someone can give me some advice, I'm working in a job with no sick leave so any sick days I take are either from my annual leave or else I take them unpaid. I got a sick cert for last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but only took Tuesday off cause basically I can't afford to take time unpaid and I've no holidays left (due to using them for sick days). I took Friday off sick too, so what I'm wondering is how does this work with regards to not being paid for the first 6 days of illness when claiming illness benefit, I also work some weekend so do the weekend count as sick days if I'm not rostered for one of them, was meant to work Saturday but couldn't, it's a long term mental health issue, started taking new medication and feel worse because of it, spent the whole weekend worrying about this and either taking time off unpaid or going to work making mistakes and not really functioning which has happened when I worked last week, thanks for reading

AFAIK, if you sent in a illness cert starting on a Monday you would not qualify for payment for illness benefit until the next Tuesday. Bear in mind they also pay a week in arrears so when you go on illness benefit, you won't receive any payment until the third week.
