after today's spin ive noticed my relatively new bib tights have started to bally in the gentleman's area where the padding is on the shorts. any idea what's causing or what could cause this to happen?
There not an Aldi/lidl pair and ive only worn them approx 10 times?

Could be stitching on the saddle causing friction?

ive recently got a bike fit and i wonder could the fact that the saddle is bang on level be the problem?

Could the little ridges on the "wing flex" area be rubbing against the bibs?

I think this is just from normal use, wear and tear.

I'm pretty sure it's happened to any shorts or tights I've worn regardless of the type of saddle or bike.

It's never happened to any of my gear and I spend a fair bit of time in the saddle.

Are you using a saddlebag with hook-and-loop fasteners?

...actually, come to think of it, it has happened on the shoulders of one of my commuting jackets from the back-pack rubbing on them.

Doesn't this usually happen to clothes in the washing machine if they're not washed according to manufacturer's instruction?

Shaven testicles/stubbly testicles cause bib shorts to go bally.

My advice: Veet, although you could have a whole host of new problems there.

Assos bibs arrive with a little bag to wash them in to avoid this. According to my wife they always fall out of the bag during the wash ......

Balling happens clothes from not washing according care instructions, wear and friction. The type of fabric is significant too. For example for Lycra with a high polymide content tends to go bally.
At a guess you are washing the shorts at too high a temperature, with a strong detergent on a long cycle. High stretch Lycra like shorts should never be in a machine longer than 40 mins, MAX.
Jerseys are different. Neither should be washed above 40 degrees, ideally cold washed or 30 at the highest if you can on your machine.

Certain types of washing powder tend to cause it too. Biological powders and Daz are the worst. The gentlest normal one is colour Persil in my experience.

Putting the shorts in a mesh bag for washing will prolong the longevity of the stretch in the Lycra and help stop the balling in such fabric.
What tends to happen is that the warp and weft of the weave in the fabric gets broken down by detergent (it destroys delicate fabric. The ONLY washing power that does not do this is woollite ), heat, and too long in a machine.
also do not shave the bally bits off. Unlike gotten or non stretch fabrics the bally bits on the Lycra are still integral to holding the fabric together. So if you go shaving them off you get holes, unless it has a very high polyester content.

Sometimes Ariel can wash the bally bits off on a high wash but this is only suitable to do to cotton and cotton based fabrics only.

TL, DR, Your shorts are balling because they are being washed for too long at too high a temp and with an overly harsh detergent.
