Any views on the Espresso Coffee Machine in Aldi from Thursday 8th May? At €59.99 its advertised as a 3 in 1 machine suitable for Nespresso pods, coffee bags and filter coffee. Does that make it a cheap Nespresso machine?

I wonder how the Nespresso lawyers will react to that, interesting. Anybody got a link to the machine in question?

Sorry, I'm not allowed to post a link because I'm a new user :-( It's on the Aldi website.

Very interesting alright. I wonder how does the Nespresso compatibility work, does it have some kind if needle adapter to pierce the foil kid on the top of the coffee pod. Could be a great purchase if it allows you to foam milk, use your own coffee grounds and have the nespresso fall-back as well when you are in a rush...

I presume they'll be thrilled. More machines in more kitchens that use their pods.

I doubt that. They are very careful with their brand and George Clooney sipping espressos in Aldi doesn't sound like something they would relish. They also make money on each machine they sell,

There's a good few different companies already produce Nespresso compatible machines. E.g Krups, DeLonghi, Magimix. Believe me, this won't be an issue.

I was reading online that in Australia Aldi sell their own brand of Nespresso compatible coffee pods too, called Espressi. Wonder if they will introduce those here in due course...

Nestle lost some court cases last year which means they no longer have exclusivity on their capsules. Expect to see others making/selling alternatives becoming more common.

Cool. I think I'll be picking up one of these machines, and if it goes pear-shaped at least will have Aldi's guarantee to fall back on.

Nespresso pods. Most people buy them online or there's a Nespresso shop in Brown Thomas on Grafton St

I saw in my local Dunnes yesterday that Robt. Roberts are doing Nespresso compatible pods now for €3.99 a box, 10 pods in a box. They had three different strengths - I think 7, 9 and 10 out of ten.

Here's a picture from their Facebook site.

Sorry for massive picture the size of the moon!

Nice to see some other compatible pods but I'm surprised at the price of the pack given they're as expensive or more expensive than most of of the official ones.

I bought one and was pretty happy with it except that the steam wand doesn't seem able to produce microfoam, that real velvetty type of foamed milk used for lattes. I find the machine quite good, start up time is quick and it's dead easy to use. The cup warmer isn't up to much though, not much heat comes out of it. I reckon I will bring it back though and get something different as I specifically bought it for making lattes.

Are you based in Dublin, if you are bringing it back I'll take it off your hands ;-)

Right, some help appreciated, there are three attachments that came with the machine, one for espresso grinds, one for nespresso pods and one which I assume is for senseo pads

I can't fit the (assumed) senseo one to the machine at all though, the connection seems to be different the rest

It's the middle of the three in the image below

Any help greatly appreciated folks :)

I haven't actually used the pads but all 3 attachments fit into the machine

Mine seems slightly smaller and has an open this way arrow on the bottom, I twist it and the black part comes off but other than that it is no different

The attachment in question I have also has a larger diameter so won't fit the yoke with the handle

The one I have is a smaller version of the ground coffee attachment. The manual describes it as a 1 cup ground coffee attachment but also says you can put the bags into it. Have you got the manual?

The smaller one fits, the larger one doesn't, got no instructions
