Commercial van: private tax -> commercial tax

I'm looking at a Ranualt Kangoo commercial van, private sale.

The current owner says they have it taxed privately because it's not being used for work.

Does anyone know what's involved in getting it taxed commercially? I would be using it as a work vehicle (unregistered sole trader). Thanks.

    Hi,
Just get a Goods Only Declaration Form....(I think it's Form RF111A) from your local Motor Tax office or download it. Fill in the details including your VAT no. or Herd No. or your PPS may do, but do not leave this section blank, bring it to your local Garda station to get it signed & stamped Tha't it ! The Guards will not ask any questions, they do loads of them every day.
Make sure that you fill in the question '' Nature of business/trade'' on form correctly i.e Carpenter, Plumber Farmer or whatever, do not just fill in ''Goods Carrying'' etc.
    M.
